How it went
A loss. Outnumbered from the second round, it was difficult for me to gain control, and I struggled to take down his fighters. I think I should have focused on reducing his number of chaff bodies who could bolster objectives, rather than on trying to get rid of his power pieces. In terms of dice, I’d pinned one of his Witherlords with my Medusa’s ‘Bloodwrack Stare’ ability which gave me the upper hand in one corner, however, the rest of the board gave way to the Rotmire creed. When my Medusa failed to stare on turn 3 to pin the Witherlord again and then took two lots of attacks to finish killing one of Mirefolk meaning I had no way to move her, it was game over. The two Witherlords and their cronies did outrageous damage knocking out the Medusa and the Lord Imperatant on this turn. Then it was just a case of mopping up my chaff.
Round 2 vs Daemons of Nurgle
Game 2 was against Jessica Denny with a Deamons of Nurgle list. I was nery again here, another nurgle list that outnumbered me!

How it went
A loss. Another list I found tough to deal with! They are slow, and you feel like you are doing OK, and then all of a sudden you are overwhelmed with pustalant bodies that are difficult to cut down. Again, I think here I should have focused on removing chaff. But toughness 4 chaff with 10 wounds are hard for my warband to get rid of with their damage profiles. Only the Medusa and Imperatant can consistently do it, and they usually take 2 turns. Instead of killing chaff, my Imperatant got involved in a slug fest with the Beast of Nurgle. Eventually taking it down, but in the end, not having helped get many points. In terms of dice, I felt let down by 2 ‘1,2,3,4,5,6’ wild dice rolls in a row for turns 1 & 2, and then to top it off, on the 3rd turn my Medusa failed to pin the fly. A tough list and a fun opponent!
Round 3 vs … Noone …
I was the ‘odd’ player this round and with no spare player I was forced to sit out. I got a ‘by’ and a auto win and 500 kill points. Technically, the worst I could do was now a 1-3 and equal my last tournament result!
On the plus side, I got to watch my friends round which he won… which meant he was on 3-0 for the day and in with a chance of a podium!
Round 4 vs Flesh Eater Courts
The last game of the day was against Matthew Carter and some neatly converted Flesh Eater Courts

How it went
A win. This game was super close, at the end of round 3 we were equal on points. However a clutch triple in round 4 on my Imperatant and then him and the Sisters of Slaughter he bonus activated absolutely popping off. My warband loves toughness 3 chaff, and toughness 4 heroes because of ‘Bathe in Blood’ double meaning I can add one to strength and 1 to attacks. FEC have a very nice reaction of minus 1 attack which is cool, but often you are really losing output when you do it. By the end of round 4 I controlled 5 of the 6 objectives and it was game over.
Summary
Fest itself was weird, I would mirror a lot of the comments on twitter/internet, there wasn’t loads to do except queue and if I hadn’t been in a tournaments I’d have been bored stiff. Food & drink w6as uninspiring and if I’d had to travel far to MCR or stay over I’d have been peeved and probably just gone for some days out. MCR and its surrounding area are lovely (admitdly I am biased as I live there).
The tournament itself though was super fun, reasonably well organised aside from some table number confusion. The staff were helpful and great to chat to. I’d have liked a little more space for all your extras, the table was very taken up with board and there wasn’t loads of space for anything else, like dice rolling or all the papers and cards you need. Interestingly, compared to the tournament at Warhammer World, the terrain was nowhere near as packed on the board. I would not have liked to face the Chimera list on some of these boards!
However, in an astonishing result, my friend came 3rd with his Seraphon list!!! I’ll take some of the credit as his regular sparring partner and chief painter :D
He claims Otapatl was his secret weapon, sniping from across the board, but I don’t believe him, he’s usually useless in our games :)
